Statement on the UK government’s decision to block Julian Assange’s extradition to the US

UK Home Secretary Priti Patel has decided to block Julian Assange’s extradition to the US. With this move, she has averted a dark precedent from being set for activists, journalists and civil society everywhere.

Assange would face up to 175 years behind bars in the US. He has already spent three unconscionable years in Belmarsh prison in London, a period in which his health has deteriorated considerably.
